Communion Sunday is the first Sunday of every month.
Lay Service is the third Sunday of every month.

The Order of Worship generally includes: Greeting, Announcements, Moment of Silence, Prelude, Call to Worship, Hymn, Children’s Time, Scripture, Sermon, Hymn, Offering, Prayers, Hymn and Blessing.

Children of all ages are invited to participate in their own program, which follows the opening of our Sunday meeting. Until we have rebuilt the church, they will adjourn after Children's time with their leaders to the Remington Lodge, at 21 West Main Street, West Cummington.

At the conclusion of our service, the children will join us at the Parish House for coffee, tea and cookies. Parents are always welcome to join the childrens program and everyone is welcome to volunteer and share their specific talent with the kids.

Early on the morning of Sunday, January 17, 2010, the 170 year old West Cummington Congregational Church burned to the ground. The fire was first spotted about 5:30am and firefighters from seven towns were at the blaze within a half hour but there was no chance of saving it.

All that morning church members & friends came and watched the smoke and charred remains on the hill. At three in the afternoon we gathered again in the Parish House to share our loss, to grieve together, and to reminisce about our experiences and our love for that beautiful, unique old building. Many recalled weddings and baptisms; others told stories of past members of the church; still others talked of cherished items they will miss.

Led by Steve Philbrick, our minister, we all mourned. But we also were able to look ahead. We are determined that the church will be rebuilt. Fortunately, we have insurance which will allow us to start the process but additional funds will almost certainly be needed. This will not be fast or easy; there is much to discuss and decide about how we want to proceed. We will proceed. And we will have a new church. As Steve said at the Parish House service: "We can do this. We're going to rebuild. Some of it will be the same and some of it will be new, but the West Cummington Church will go on."

Click here to see photos of the church, as it was, as it burned, and as it stood like an old ruin before the fire marshals had to have it torn down. If you would like to be part of the rebuilding, there are many ways to show your support: Contribute money, join one or more of the rebuilding committees as they are formed, help with your hands when it is needed, do all three.

A rebuilding fund has been established at the Florence Savings Bank, 85 Main Street , Florence , MA 01062 . Donations can be made out to the West Cummington Congregational Church – Rebuilding Fund.

Thank you all for your support in whatever way. The community spirit that has come out of this tragic event has been and continues to be amazing.
